Description
I was inspired to create these paintings by the cenotes that are located in Mexico on the Yucatan Peninsula.
I populated them with small goldfish, koi carps. Which symbolize luck, victory and fortitude.
In Japan, koi carps are also a symbol of love.
***
Large sinkholes or caves, usually found in sedimentary limestone rock, that have filled with cool, clear groundwater and rainwater over time. It is typical in the Mexican Yucatán Peninsula and some nearby Caribbean islands.
The cenotes for the Maya culture have been a symbol of duality since they represented life and death. They were a water source for the Maya cities and represented the gateway to the world of the dead: the Xibalbá.
There are many meanings hidden in these small round abstract green and blue paintings with with goldfish.
